On the shores of Lake Dunstan, the College has established a vibrant centre of water safety education. The Centre provides a safe and fun environment for people of all ages to experience a range of water sports including yachting, kayaking and windsurfing. The Centre is available for hire from all school or other groups and has equipment suitable from Year 5 students up. The complex is based around a centre that includes a double classroom equipped with seating, tables, a large TV and video, and whiteboard.
Also on this floor is a fully-equipped kitchen which includes fridge/freezer, full-sized oven, microwave and plenty of storage cupboards. The base of the Centre has changing rooms that include hot showers and water sport equipment.
The current fleet includes . . .
7 Optimist yachts – small one person yachts suitable for primary students.
10 Topper yachts – suitable for one or two learners or experienced students from age 10 to adult.
6 Sunburst yachts – two person crew for intermediate or experienced sailors.
12 windsurfers – suitable for secondary students and older.
31 kayaks – some of these are open decked which allow bigger students to participate fully.
Coronet Yacht – This is an open-topped dropped keel yacht, capable of taking up to 8 people.
All hirers must wear the provided lifejackets (90 in stock in sizes suitable from Year 5 students) and these are included in any hire charge. The Centre requires all hirers to use our qualified instructors, including the use of one of the two chase boats which is driven by the instructor.
The Centre also has available for hirers (free of charge), the use of a ‘Club’ sized gas barbecue.
If you wish to have further information sent to you along with hire charges, please contact the Cromwell College Aquatic Centre Manager, Mrs Glenys Wing, either through the School office (03 445 1121) or email email@example.com
